see your folks

Some close friends of mine recently lost their Dad.
When they announced to us a couple of days before what the situation was,
I felt so down.
Every single time I had a quiet moment to myself, I would start crying.
It got me thinking about how precious time is.
And how it should be spent with love ones.
Always.
No one should ever be taken for granted.
Treasure Relationships. Treasure Friendships.
Keep in touch with family and friends that you've lost touch with.
With Facebook, Skype, Whatsapp, Instagram and loads more, we have no excuse.
See them as often as possible.

I usually listen to Triple J's program called 'hack' on the way home from work.
And today, they were talking about this website called see your folks that calculates the number of times you'll get to see your parents before they pass away.
The website is based on data collected by the Wold Health Organization on the life expectancy rate of 2011.
Their main aim is to create awareness of death and hopefully help us see things differently and make the most of our lives.

All you have to do is fill in where your parents live, their age and how many times you see them on average a year.

I filled in my parents details and lets just say I was pretty daunted by the results.

For those who live away from home (yup, especially you), the next time you're considering doing something different like going to a holiday resort or having a hell of a wild time away just doing something different instead of going home to spend the family holidays/Christmas with the whole jin gang, think again.

We can't turn back, stop or slow time down.
All we can do is make the best of what we have.
Quality time, all the time.
